Which Lock Function Do I need?

There are three types of lock functions: Passage, Privacy and Dummy.

• Passage: This is the standard type of knob for an inside door. You turn the knob to remove the strike from the door frame and open the door. There is no "lock". The strike simply keeps the door shut.
• Privacy: This is the standard for bedrooms and bathrooms. On the inner knob there is a locking mechanism that prevents the door from being opened. There is no key involved. If you require a keyed lock, please browse our Keyed Entry Locks section.
• Dummy: A Dummy acts purely as a handle. It is surface mounted and there is no lock in the door. A full dummy means there is a knob on each side of the door. A half dummy is a knob on one side of the door only. A dummy is ideal for closets.
